Medicine-Pediatric Track
About Our Medicine-Pediatrics ID Training
This training track in Medicine-Pediatrics, launched in 2014, is a collaboration between the BIDMC and Boston Children’s Hospital Infectious Diseases Fellowship Programs. The track accepts graduates of Medicine-Pediatrics residency training programs who are interested in continuing fellowship training in both adult and pediatric infectious diseases. Throughout the track curriculum, fellows train in clinical adult and pediatric infectious diseases, take advantage of a broad array of superb, integrated educational conferences and dedicate two full years to closely mentored scholarship in their area of interest.
Interested and qualified applicants are accepted to the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC)-Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH) Combined Medicine-Pediatrics Infectious Diseases Fellowship training track on a case-by-case basis. Interested candidates should apply to both the BIDMC and BCH categorical ID fellowship programs through ERAS and indicate in the personal statement a desire to pursue combined training. Interested candidates are also welcome to contact our program directors in advance of applying with inquiries. BIDMC and BCH Infectious Diseases Fellowship program directors, Dr. Wendy Stead and Dr. Tanvi Sharma, work together closely to review fellowship applications and coordinate interview invitations for eligible candidates. Once a candidate matches with our programs, a petition is submitted for combined training to the ABIM and ABP. The Medicine-Pediatric ID Fellowship structure includes two years of clinically focused infectious diseases training (one focused on Pediatric ID and one focused on Adult ID) followed by 2 years of mentored research in the fellow’s area of interest.
Our first Medicine-Pediatrics ID fellow graduated from this combined program in 2017 and we have successfully matched many fellows to this training track since its inception. Interested candidates are strongly encouraged to reach out with any questions to either Dr. Stead or Dr. Sharma. We would love to hear from trainees interested in this unique and exciting training pathway!
